I saw her digging in the trash
I saw her young smudged face in that place
A place where love and living are gone
Where learning is only an afterthought
Scraping, hording, surviving
I saw her digging in the trash
When you spoke of the environment
Save the earth?
Her mind is elsewhere
Eating, drinking, existing
I saw her digging in the trash
If only she had love, food and shelter
A pen, a paper and knowledge
Her mind could be on Earth.
Beauty, admiration and value
I saw her digging in your trash
